Preparations for the 15th edition of the All African Athletics Championships to be hosted by Mauritius has reached top gear. The competition will hold in the southern African nation between the 8 -13 August 2006. President of the Organising Committee of the African Championships, COCAM 2006, Michael Glover, made a successful presentation of the state of readiness of the host during the congress of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) held at the Holiday Inn hotel in the Finnish capital, Helsinki in August. The COCAM 2006 group also planned to attract the top athletes from the 53 African countries members of the CAA to the championships the next year. Plans are also underway to tackle African delegates concerns about the provision of hassle-free air connections to Mauritius during the championships. In addition, three transit points in Africa were proposed to facilitate the conveyance of the athletes towards Mauritius. They are Nairobi (Kenya), Dakar (Senegal) and Johannesbourg (South Africa). Athletes coming in from North Africa, will assemble in Paris. The Official Magazine of the 15th African Championships in Athletics, as well as the Preliminary Technical Rules published by the Organizing Committee (COCAM 2006) has been launched. The organisers had already unveiled the championships logo in April. Click here to visit the championships website.
