Lagos state will this weekend host an All-Comers athletics meet for local athletes preparing for the next month's IAAF Grand Prix meet in Abuja.
Former African Long Jump record-holder, Yusuf Ali, told reporters that the purpose of the event is to put the athletes that would be participating at the Grand Prix in Abuja in shape, and that athletics coaches will meet during the week to sort out the details, including events to be competed for.
He added that the organisers plan to have at least two of these sort of meets before the Abuja Grand Prix on May 5, with the first one taking place this weekend.
Ali said: “We are creating an avenue whereby the athletes through this Meet will know where they are lacking and what they need to improve before the Grand Prix.
"I must add that the All Comers Meet is not just for the Grand Prix, but from time to time. If we wait for millions, knowing how things work here, there will be no competitions for the athletes."
