The director-general of the Nigerian National Sports Commission, Amos Adamu has said that the positive showing of the Nigerian team, especially the gold medal winning perfomance of Olusoji Fasuba at the World Indoor championships was a good signal for the Beijing Olympics.
Adamu, who was in Valencia, said: "It was good I came. I tried to motivate our athletes and I think I did. They were happy and inspired.
“I think what happened was a sign of good things to come at the Olympics. It is wrong to write off Nigeria. People have been complaining about our preparations but they do not know what we are doing.
"The athletes have a programme and we are making everything possible to see their programme run through smoothly. We have mapped out certain areas of strength and we are concentrating."
"The relay for example is receiving special attention. I want our relay team to be regrouping from time to time in Europe where they can compete and train. Baton exchange has always been a problem. We want to ensure they get it right this time." he added.
