The Nedbank Johannesburg City Marathon is the last event that athletes can use to qualify for the 2008 Comrades Marathon.
The Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 4 May,2008 runs along probably one of the most historic routes in the country. The race takes runners through some of the country’s rich heritage sites.
Some of the historic sights along the route include Sophiatown, Constitutional Hill, the Mandela Bridge, Newtown and the Apartheid Museum.
The race passes close to the historic Anglican Church (Christ the King) in Sophiatown - one of the few buildings left standing by the apartheid government, when the town was demolished after forced removals in that area. The church has subsequently been declared a national monument.
