Gaisah leapt to a massive distance of 8.51m at the final round to wrestle the medal from South Africa's Godfrey Khotso Mokoena who had led up to that point with 8.45m. Algeria's Issam Nima was third with 8.37m. The reigning World Indoor and Commonwealth Games Long Jump champion, could have broken the African record, bar an excessive following wind of +3.7 metres per second.
