Today marks a new beginning for us at AthleticsAfrica. The first day of the year 2024 – a loaded calendar year of Olympics, African Games and African Championships for our athletes and member federations.
The year 2024 also marks the 20th year since our company and this website was birthed on 25 July 2004.
The last two decades have been challenging and rewarding in equal measures. We are comforted by our contributions to amplifying the voices of African athletes globally and pushing the African narratives and inclusion in the world of track and field.
We are also excited by what the future hold especially as we look forward to the launch of AthleticsAfrica Plus later this year. If you would like to support the project and contribute to keeping our journalism free, kindly consider a donation.
We are starting this year with the coverage of the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March and later the delayed 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana in late March.
We do hope to send a team to cover the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, The Bahamas in May; the 23rd African Championships in Douala, Cameroon in June; and later the Olympic Games in Paris in July.
Our work at AthleticsAfrica would not have been possible without the commitment and contribution of all of you – our readers, fans, supporters, athletes and athletics administrators across the continent.
We will like to thank you for supporting and partnering with us for the last 20 years. We hope to continue to serve you, and to continue to tell the authentic African stories without the spin, into the next decade.
Kindly let us know on our social media channels how we can better serve you, and the range of contents you would like to see on our pages in the new year.
We wish you a happy new year.
