The organisers of the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Portland 2016, which will be staged between March 17-20, have released the official bulletin to mark the 50 days to go until the event.
The [link id=”671″ tax=”category” text=”Portland 2016″] Local Organising Committee (LOC) have previously [link id=”10820″ text=”announced the preliminary entries”] of 699 athletes (403 men, 296 women) from 154 federations, making the 16th edition of the championships the largest ever to be held in North America.
Although there will be a slight reduction in numbers between preliminary entries and final participants, this year’s championships could be the biggest in almost 20 years, since the 1997 event in Paris when a record 712 athletes competed.
Champions from two years ago in the Polish city of Sopot such as Ashton Eaton, Pavel Maslak, [link id=”248″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Ayanleh Souleiman”], Mutaz Essa Barshim, Konstadinos Filippidis, [link id=”256″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Mohammed Aman”], [link id=”478″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Caleb Ndiku”], Mauro da Silva, Abeba Aregawi, [link id=”379″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Genzebe Dibaba”], Yarisley Silva and Kamila Licwinko have all indicated that Portland is part of their plans for the winter.
