Olympic relay gold medalist, Enefiok Udo-Obong, believes the 2016 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will not only be well organized, but that it will also be glamorous.
[link id=”485″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Enee Udo-Obong”], whose blistering anchor of the men 4x400m at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games gave [link id=”815″ tax=”category” text=”Nigeria”] her first relay gold medal, said: “With the caliber of people on the Organizing Committee, I’m looking forward to a well-organized race.”
“The chairman, Deji Tinubu, is highly meticulous and a man who pays special attention to little details.
“There’s also [link id=”670″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Yussuf Alli”], a man who been to many local and international championships and organized many local events from the Abuja 2003 All Africa Games, CAA Grand Prix, National trials, [link id=”587″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Okpekpe Road Races”], Aba Marathon and many more.
“We also have Tayo Popoola, one the best sports event organizers, as well as other experts in media, security, doping, and other areas, so I expect a very well organized race,” he added.
The Athens 2004 Olympic Games bronze medalist believes that Lagos being the capital of entertainment in [link id=”4″ tax=”category” text=”Africa”] should expect musicians, actors and actresses plus other classes of entertainment gurus and celebrities to turn up and support the race,
“I won’t be running, but am appealing to Lagosians, especially our celebrities, to come out in their thousands to support the race, cheer the runners and make it a day of fun for everybody.”
Udo-Obong noted that Lagos has lost a lot by waiting this long before giving her people a marathon.
“The marathon is part of mega cities worldwide and Lagos robbed itself of the immense benefits of marathon by not having one till now,” he said.
“But I’m glad we have one now and really appreciate the efforts of Lagos State, the athletics family, sponsors and everybody that worked hard to come up with this initiative.
“I am positive it will be glamorous and well organized. This is great for Lagos, very great,” Udo-Obong concluded.
