The duo of Nicholas Osikhena Imhoaperamhe and Nkem Ezealah dashed to sprint victories at the second leg of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria – AFN Golden League meeting in Abuja on Saturday.
[link id=”758″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Nicholas Imhoaperamhe”], who set a lifetime best time of 10.23 seconds [link id=”9968″ text=”in Oba, Anambra two weeks ago”], won the men’s 100m in 10.36 seconds.
Former junior star [link id=”504″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Divine Oduduru”] from Delta came second in 10.40 seconds with David Sule (10.50) third and Harry Mamus Emuobonuvie (10.58) finishing in fourth place.
Imhoaperamhe had earlier ran 10.42 seconds in his heat ahead of Nicholas Akinniyi (10.81) and Godwin Ashien (10.95).
In the women’s 100m, [link id=”770″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Nkem Ezealah”], who earlier came second in 11.70 seconds to qualify from her Heat behind Deborah Odeyemi (11.56) exact revenge on her rivals to win the final race.
Ezealah took the final race in 11.61 seconds ahead of the Anambra golden league meet winner [link id=”760″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Isoken Igbinosun”] (11.70) and Justina Sule (11.71) while Cecilia Francis was fourth in 11.72 seconds.
Oluwatosin Adeloye won the women’s 400m in 52.48 seconds, followed by Vivian Rita Ossai in second place (53.40) and Folashade Olotu (53.90) in third position. Margaret Etim of the NSCDC was fourth in 54.59 seconds.
[link id=”759″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Orukpe Erayokan”] won the men’s 400m in a personal best time of 46.13 seconds ahead of Samson Nathaniel (46.49) and [link id=”162″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Noah Akwu”] (46.74).
US-based Euphemia Edem won AFN Golden League women’s Long Jump event with a distance of 6.48m (0.8m/s), ahead of African senior championships Silver medallist, Chinazom Amadi (6.38m, 0.2m/s).
Delta state’s Hope Idhe, who won the Triple Jump, settled for third place with 6.05m (0.6m/s) while Ibrahim Blessing Ibukun of NSCDC was fourth with 5.98m (0.1m/s).
[link id=”771″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Grace Ayemoba”] won the women’s 100m Hurdles in 13.56 seconds ahead of Kemi Francis (13.76) and Temidayo Oshinbajo (13.95).
Onan Sale won the women’s 5000m in 17:24.75, followed by Deborah Pam (17:32.35) and Lydia Michael (17:34.31).
Kefas Williams took the men’s 5000m race in 14:45.42, ahead of Emmanuel Gyang (14:48.03) and Monday Jigak (14:49.29).
Samuel Adams Kure took the men’s Javelin throw with a distance of 70.21 metres ahead of Kenechukwu Ezeofor (64.24m) and Friday Osayande (61.52m)
Late venue switch
The [link id=”430″ tax=”post_tag” text=”AFN Golden League”] meeting was originally scheduled to be held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna but [link id=”10019″ text=”was switched during the week to the Abuja National Stadium”], Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Olukayode Thomas, Head of Media for the AFN, said the change was inevitable due to lack of support from the Kaduna State Sports Council.
“We have moved the AFN Golden League from Kaduna to the Abuja due to the lack of support from the Kaduna State Sports council, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this change may have caused members of the Athletics family and other stake holders,” Mr. Thomas explained.
