The first edition of the International Half Marathon D’El Jadida (SMIJ) will take place in the Moroccan port city of El Jadida, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco on Sunday, June 8, 2014.
Organised by the Association Mazagan Marathon (AMM) in collaboration with the Doukkala Abda Region, the province of El Jadida, the town of El Jadida and common Moulay Abdellah, the course of the 21.1 km Half Marathon El Jadida is flat and rolling in way back along the coast D’El Jadida – Sidi Bouzid.
“The objective of organizing and hosting such an event by the city of El Jadida is not only a great celebration of sport and to develop physical activity in the population, but also to promote tourism in the city and its cultural heritage,” wrote the organisers in an email to Athletics Africa.
“Mass sport has become nowadays a real lever for the promotion of tourism it attracts many tourists and strengthens the radiation host cities both nationally and internationally.”
More than 2,000 participants from five continents are expected to participate in the first edition of the Half Marathon El Jadida which will be organised in accordance to international standards to promote the values of friendliness, hospitality, celebration and fun.
“They are united by a passion for running and happiness to discover the city in a sporting and friendly angle. Furthermore, this event beyond the competition is an opportunity for personal growth, balance the body, adventure, dating.” said the organisers.
This event will also be a good time to all those who wish to associate with the occasion and festivities. Participants and the general public are welcome to visit the booths of exhibitors while enjoying the activities organized.
