Athletics Kenya (AK) has unveiled an 18-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2017 IAAF World Youth Championships (WYC) in Athletics to be held in Nairobi July 12-16, 2017.
The LOC, formally launched by the Cabinet Principal Secretary at the Ministry for Sports Culture, Dr. Hassan Wario Arero, will be under the chairmanship of Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, who is set to move up from 1st vice president of [link id=”199″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Athletics Kenya”] to interim President from May 1.
Tuwei will be deputised by sports secretary Jasper Rugut and Nairobi County deputy governor Jonathan Mueke, while AK CEO Isaac Mwangi retains the same position at the 2017 World Youth Championships LOC.
Speaking at the launch, Wario said the LOC has sufficient time to prepare for the event. He further indicated that government bureaucracy will not impede the progress of Kenya’s WYC planning as has been observed in previous events.
“Government procurement officer has been incorporated into the LOC so that activities that require going through official procedure are not delayed. We have to be in time with our preparations of the championships. Two years is enough time,” said Wario.
“I assure all corporate companies that will support the games that their contribution will satisfactorily be accounted for to the last coin,” added Wario.
