Ethiopian Regasa and Kenyan Amanang’ole triumph at ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2024

Ethiopia’s Chala Ketama Regasa won the men’s race in 2:06:16, while Kenya’s Catherine Reline Amanang’ole triumphed in the women’s race with 2:20:34 at the 2024 ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon on Saturday 14 December.

Regasa’s time was just five seconds shy of his personal best (2:06:11). Djibouti’s Ibrahim Hassan Bouh finished second with 2:06:33, and Kenya’s Wilfred Kirwa Kigen third with 2:06:47.

In the women’s category, Amanang excelled in her marathon debut. Eritrea’s Dolshi Tesfu Teklegergish was second with 2:23:47, and Kenya’s Aurelia Jerotich Kiptui third with 2:26:28.

Morocco’s Yassir Echchaachoui won the 10km race in 28:41, followed by Ismail El Kharchi (29:01) and Ethiopia’s Urgesa Kitesa (29:03).

Ethiopia’s Gemene Tunku led the women’s 10km race, finishing in 32:40. Morocco’s Rkia Elmoukim (33:01) and Ethiopia’s Ayantu Kumsa (34:09) completed the podium.

The sixth event saw a record 33,000 participants, the largest in its history.

Jointly organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and ADNOC, the marathon offered a prize purse of €285,662, featuring five race categories: full marathon, marathon relay, 10km, 5km, and 2.5km.

UAE Minister of Industry and High Technology, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, inaugurated the event, marking the start of the marathon and 10km races, and later presented awards to the winners with sports officials and partners.

Starting at ADNOC’s headquarters on King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, the marathon route highlighted Abu Dhabi’s landmarks, including Qasr Al Hosn, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Wahat Al Karama, and ADNOC Tower.
