Ahoure stuns with 10.78 African 100m record in Florida

Côte d’Ivoire’s Murielle Ahoure sets a new African 100m record with a blistering run of 10.78 (1.6m/s) at the Star Athletics Pro Meet at the Montverde Academy in Florida on Saturday.

Côte d’Ivoire’s Murielle Ahoure set a new African 100m record with a blistering run of 10.78 (1.6m/s) at the Star Athletics Pro Meet at the Montverde Academy in Florida on Saturday 11 June.

Murielle Ahoure‘s run eclipsed the African record of 10.79 set by Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor in London on July 27, 2013.

Earlier in the day, the Ivorian star run a marginally wind-aided 10.80 (2.1m/s) in the premilinary rounds, improving her own previous best of 10.81 set in London in July 2015.

The double sprints silver medalist at the 2013 world championships in Moscow moved past the 10.80 world lead set by American Tori Bowie in Doha on 6 May to land on top of the 2016 world lists.

Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown finished second in the final in 10.83 with Joanna Atkins third in 11.09 and world junior 200m champion Kaylin Whitney finished fourth in 11.17.

Nigeria’s Gloria Asumnu finished in 11.29 in the final (11.38 in the prelims) while Gabon’s Ruddy Zang Milama clocked 11.47 in the preliminaries.

Ahoure, born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast also holds Ivorian record in 100 metres outdoor and the African record in 200 metres indoor and outdoor.
