Sprinter Sean Safo-Antwi has been cleared to switch his allegiance from Britain to ‪Ghana‬ with immediate effect, British Athletics has announced.

Safo-Antwi, the winner of the men’s 60m in 6.56 seconds at the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix in February, is now eligible to compete for Ghana after a transfer of allegiance request was accepted by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).

It’s understood that Safo-Antwi’s request for permission to change allegiance to the IAAF, which was made in January, was unopposed by Great Britain and Northern Ireland federation.

The 25-year-old finished third at the Indoor British Championships in Sheffield last month, but was omitted from the British team with James Dasaolu and Andrew Robertson taking up the automatic Team GB spot to the [link id=”672″ tax=”post_tag” text=”IAAF World Indoor Championships”] in Portland.

[link id=”895″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Safo-Antwi”], who has lowered his life time best over the 60m to 6.55 seconds so far this season, would be a major asset to the Ghanaian team at [link id=”671″ tax=”category” text=”Portland 2016″] and [link id=”315″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Rio 2016 “] Olympic Games.
