Ethiopian duo claim podium finish in Belgrade – 2022 World Indoors

Ethiopians Lemlem Hailu and Ejigayehu Taye claim women’s 3000m podium finish at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, Belgrade 2022.

Ethiopia’s Lemlem Hailu claimed the women’s 3000m title at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, striding over the line in 8:41.82.

USA’s Elle Purrier St. Pierre takes the silver in 8:42.04 while Hailu’s compatriot Ejigayehu Taye settles for the bronze medal in 8:42.23.

“We were cooperating together and competing at the same time,” said Lemlem Hailu of her teammates to the World Athletics flash quotes team.

“It helps us to achieve such performances. If I have the chance, I would like to say big thank you to my husband Jonas and my coach, who is here supporting me. This medal belongs to them.”

Canadian Gabriela DeBues-Stafford was a close fourth in 8:42.89, while Ethiopian middle-distance runner Dawit Seyaum finished fifth in 8:44.55.
