Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris sped to his second consecutive Diamond Race victory of 2016 at the Prefontaine Classic IAAF Diamond League meeting in Eugene on Saturday.
Muktar Edris, who won earlier at the Diamond League in Shanghai on 14 May, took over the lead on the homestretch and held on to win the men’s 5000m in 12:59.43.
Two-time world half marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor from Kenya finished second in 12:59.98 while Canada’s Mo Ahmed set a national record with 13:01.74 in third place.
The 2015 world championships silver medallist Ihab Abdelrahman of Egypt set a meeting and stadium record of 87.37m with his final throw to win the men’s javelin.
Abdelrahman equalled the world-lead set by Germany’s Thomas Rohler in Ostrava eight days ago.
Kenya’s Julius Yego, the gold medallist from Beijing 2015, settled for the second position with a best mark of 84.68m while Rohler finished third with 82.53m.
