Degitu Azimeraw emerged victorious in the women’s race at the Zurich Marató Barcelona, leading an all-Ethiopian lineup on the podium.
Tadesse Abraham also made history by breaking the Swiss record in the men’s race at the World Athletics Gold Label road race.
Azimeraw, competing in her first marathon post-pregnancy, crossed the finish line in 2:19:52 – just eight seconds short of the course record.
Shuko Genemo and Meseret Dinke, both from Ethiopia, secured second and third place with times of 2:21:35 and 2:22:58 respectively.
Abraham set a new men’s course record with a time of 2:05:01, improving his own record by five seconds. He took the lead after the halfway mark, maintaining a strong pace and pulling ahead of the competition.
Collins Kipkirui Kipkorir from Kenya finished second in 2:06:44, while Edmond Kipngetich, also from Kenya, claimed third place with a time of 2:07:21.
