CAA President Hamad Kalkaba elected as IAAF Vice President

The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) President, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, has been elected as one of the four vice presidents of the International Association of Athletics Associations (IAAF).

The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) President, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, has been elected as one of the four vice presidents of the International Association of Athletics Associations (IAAF).

[link id=”506″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Kalkaba-Malboum”], from [link id=”102″ tax=”category” text=”Cameroon”], was elected with 115 votes to the IAAF Council 2015-2019 at the 50th IAAF Congress held in the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) in Beijing, China on Wednesday August 19, 2015.

Ukrainian [link id=”786″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Sergey Bubka”], who lost in his bid to be President to Great Britain’s Sebastian Coe in the first round of voting with 115 votes against 92, garnered 187 votes to retain his position as the first Vice President for another term.

Qatar’s Dahlan Al-Hamad, the Asian confederations President, was elected as IAAF second Vice President with 159 votes while Cuban Alberto Juantorena got 111 votes to become the fourth Vice President.

Other Africans on the 2015-2019 IAAF Council are: Morocco’s [link id=”349″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Nawal El Moutawakel”], Namibia’s [link id=”638″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Frankie Fredericks”] and a yet to be named member to be appointed as a representative of the Confederation of African Athletics.

Former [link id=”199″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Athletics Kenya “]president, [link id=”703″ tax=”post_tag” text=”Isaiah Kiplagat”] lost in his bid to become the IAAF vice president ahead of the Cameroonian as only 64 countries voted for in the elections.

208 Federations took part in the election to the IAAF Council with 207 valid votes counted.
