The annual Khomas Region Track and Field Championship is billed for Saturday, February 18 at the Independence Stadium.
The annual regional championship is fully sanctioned by Athletics Namibia and a team will thereafter be selected to represent the Khomas region at the Athletics Namibia National Championships scheduled to take place on the 25 February at the same stadium.
The due date for club entries is Tuesday, 14 February at 12h00.
"Our hope is to qualify more athletes for London 2012. We have been encouraged following great performances of the region’s athletes such as Beata Naigambo, Helalia Johannes, Sune’ Wittmann and Tjipekapora Herunga and we continue to create opportunities for our athletes,” said Carmen Walder, vice chairperson of Khomas Athletic Region.
The Khomas Region will this year focus on its four championship prime events of Track and Field, Cross Country, Half Marathon and a Street Mile.
“We really want to create opportunities for our local sponsors to tap into, hence, this is our region’s future profiled competitions and will attract numbers,” said Walder.
Meanwhile, as preparations for the upcoming annual regional championship, there will be two one-hour events for the region’s athletes on the 9th and 13th February respectively. The time trails will start at 18h00 till 19h00 on these days at Windhoek Independence Stadium.
The Khomas Region includes the following athletics clubs: Golden Cheetah AC, Katutura Road Runners, NDF AC, Police AC, Windhoek Harriers, UNAM AC, WHS AC and Welwitschia 77
