Yomi Omogbeja (18/07/2005) Ojokolo who overcame an indifferent season to retain her Nigerian title in 11.28 seconds last week, was a comfortable winner in the 100m cruising to a slow 11.62 seconds. Senegalese Aida Diop was second with a season's best 11.68 seconds while Greek heptathlete Panayota Alexandrou settled for third place in 11.75 seconds. Seemingly not bothered by the rain, a constant feature in her home country, Ojokolo said: "I am absolutely at home here. Perhaps Greece suits me." Uchenna Emedolu, 28, was left for dead at the blocks in the 100m by reigning Central American champion Trinidad's Darrel Brown and compatriot Marc Burns, but still ran a controlled race to catch Burns with metres to go. Brown won the 100m with a meeting record of 10.14 seconds with Emedolu finishing second in 10.19 seconds. Burns settled for third place in 10.25 seconds. Emedolu returned later to take third place in the 200m in a season's best 20.55 seconds, claiming the World Athletics Championships 'A' qualifying standard (20.59) in the process. South African Jacques Freitag overcame a terrible run of form in the past weeks to claim joint second with a clearance of 2.20 metres in the men's Long Jump. Kenyans had a clean sweep of the men's 1500m with Timothy Kiptanui (3:38.7), Robert Rono (3:39.0), Michael Too (3:39.5) and Benson Esho ( 3:39.6)SB finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. |
