Sihine bounces back in Prague

Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, Sileshi Sihine, has secured a place in the Ethiopian World Championships team after setting a meet record in the 10,000m at the Memorial Josefa Odlozila (IAAF Grand Prix II) meeting in Prague.

Sihine, 22, who has suffered a knee injury all through last winter, took the record to cleaners in 26:57.27, relegating countryman Gezhagne Mamo and Kenya’s Geoffrey Kingeno to the second (27:38.49) and third (27:41.78) positions respectively.

The Ethiopian, who was a bronze medallist at the Paris 2003 world championships, said after the race he was disappointed with his form inspite of the record.

"I must admit I am disappointed," he said. "I expected more. But I missed two months of training in the winter so I still need more training to have top shape."

Kenya's Dennis Musembi Ndiso was fourth in 27:46.16 with Henry Kipchirchir fifth in 27:57.98.

Unstoppable Fasuba

Nigeria's newest sensation and the 10th ranked athlete in the world, Olusoji Fasuba added another European victory to his kitty with an assured 10.16 seconds run in the 100 metres.

The 20-year-old, a member of the Nigerian 2004 Olympics bronze winning 4x100 metres quartet, was clearly unfazed by the earlier drama in the race that saw two athletes, Briton Marlon Devonish and fellow African Eric Nkansah of Ghana, disqualified.

European Indoor champion Jason Gardener was second in 10.27 and Cote D'voire's Eric Pacome N'Dri was third in 10.33 seconds.

Ugandan sensation Dorcus Inzikuru won the women’s 3000m Steeplechase in 9:20.33 - the second best time in 2005 and the 7th fastest of all-time.

Nigerian Olympic 4X400m relay bronze medallist James Godday won the men's 400m with a decent 45.81 seconds over teammate Saul Weigopwa who finished second in a Season's Best of 45.99 seconds.

Godday was well inside the IAAF's 'B' standard (45.95) for Helsinki but still have to meet the 'A' standard (45.55) at the Nigerian trials next month.

Ghanaian Anim Vida came second in the women's 200 metres won by Brazilian Moura Lucimar Aparecida (23.00) in 23.03 seconds.

Ghana's Gaisah Ignasious (8.09 metres), South Africa's Martin McClintock (7.96 metres) and Mauritius' Jonathan Chimier (7.85 metres) were second, third and fourth respectively in the men's Long Jump.
