SA names team for Helsinki

South Africa's Jacques Freitag - Source: ASA (29/04/2005)

South Africa has released a provisional team for the 10th IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held in Helsinki, Finland from the 6-14 August 2005.

The list includes World high jump champion Jacques Freitag who missed last year's Olympic Games in Athens due to an ankle injury, but has been in terrific form this season.

Freitag opened the outdoor season with a 2.38m African record at the fourth ABSA Series meet in Oudtshoorn last month, and a 2.35m at the SA Championships in Durban earlier this month.

Olympic 800 metres silver medallist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, 2000 Olympic 400 metres hurdle bronze medallist Llewellyn Herbert and 1996 Olympic 800 metres silver medallist Hezekiel Sepeng were also included in the 15-member team.
