Kenya's Ezekiel Kembo outsprinted fellow countrymen Birmin Kipruto and Paul Kipsiele Koech to take the men's 3000m steeplechase in Athens.

Sydney silver medallist Kemboi led home the Kenyan 1-2-3, their first clean sweep since 1992, in a season's best time of 8:05.81.

Brimin Kipruto took silver in 8:06.11 and Paul Kipsiele Koech got the bronze in 8:06.64. Their nearest competitor Musa Obaid Amer of Qatar ran a personal best 8:07.18 to place fourth.

Kemboi came down the home straight gesturing to his team-mates after a race clearly run according to well worked-out team tactics.

Kenya has won the Olympic steeplechase gold in every games the country has competed in since 1968.
