African 100m champion Olusoji Fasuba of Nigeria confirmed his class by winning the Tusker African Athletics Confederation (AAC) Permit Meeting in Kasarani, Kenya.

Fasuba, a member of the Nigerian 2004 Olympics bronze winning 4x100 metres quartet, sped to a 10.09 clocking to equal his personal best in the 100m (wind reading yet to be confirmed).

He also took a sprint double (10.20 seconds in 100m and 20.62 seconds in 200m) in the earlier AAC meet in Bamako on 6 April.

The 20-year-old said he came to Kenya to show the world why he is ranked 10th in the world and second (to Ghanaian Aziz Zakari) in Africa.

South Africa's 2000 Sydney Olympics bronze medallist Llewelyn Herbert also won the men’s 400m Hurdles in 49.9 seconds and announced he would retire from international competition after the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Nku in Osaka

Also at the IAAF Japan Grand Prix in Osaka, Nigeria’s single representative Mercy Nku finished in a disappointing fifth position in the women’s 100m in 10.80 seconds.

The race was won by American Olympic women's 200m silver medallist Allyson Felix in a slow 11.30 seconds with compatriot Angela Daigle second in 11.37 seconds.
