Kenyan Moses Kigen has won the inaugural Wareng Road Race held in Eldoret town. The 21-year-old outpaced a tough field that include former double national junior cross country champion Barnabas Kosgei to win the 10K event in 27:54.01. Kosgei, who was fourth in the 2004 World Cross Country Championships, took the second position in 27:54.10, whilst Thomas Lorongosiwa was third in 27:56.00. Faith Cheruto took the women 5K event in 16:00.00 beating Rita Jeptoo and Salome Jepchumba to the second and third positions respectively in 16:08.00 and 16:18.00. The male and female overall winners took home various prizes including electronic goods. The event was organised by two former Kenyan steeplechasers Moses Kiptanui and Patrick Sang and sponsored by an Eldoret branch of a supermarket. One of the three IAAF's high performance centres in Africa is situated in Eldoret town. |
