Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba has re-written the world indoor 5000m record at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games.

The 19-year-old world 5,000m champion and world junior record holder,ran an astonishing 14:32.93 to wipe off countrywoman Berhane Adere's 14:39.29 set a year ago.

Buoyed by the incredible pace of the pacemaker Yelena Kanales, Tirunesh and her older sister, Ejegayehu, the Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, flew through 3000m in 8:51.3 and 4000m in 11:46.2.

Ejegayehu Dibaba (Adidas) was second in 14:58.25 and American Lauren Fleshman representing Nike was third in 15:35.25.

Olympics 5000m gold medallist Meseret Defar narrowly missed the 3000m World Indoor record after being trapped between two lapped athletes.

Defar's 8:30.05 is the second-fastest indoor 3000m in history, just outside Berhane Adere's three-year-old world record of 8:29.15.

Irish Olympian Alistair Cragg took advantage of a rare mistake by the 2004 IAAF Athlete of the Year Kenenisa Bekele, to take the men's 3,000m in 7:39.89.

Bekele, in his first race since his fiancee's death, returned 7:41.42 after miscalculating the number of laps remaining at the end of the race.

Kenya's Laban Rotich outsprinted Athens silver medallist, Bernard Lagat, to win the men's Mile with a new national indoor record in 3:53.18.
