Kenya's Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi was a let down at the African Athletics Confederation (AAC) Permit Meeting in Nairobi. Kemboi finished in a lowly eighth position (7:56.8) in the flat 3000m - a race won by former world youth 1500m champion Isaac Songok in 7 minutes, 46.6 seconds. Eritrea's Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist Zersenay Tadesse was third in 7:50.5, behind Kenyan David Chemweno, who was second in 7 minutes, 48.2 seconds. Kemboi has not competed since winning the gold medal at the Athens Olympics last August. Songok, who led from the bell and held on till the finish said: "I am happy that Julius Kiptoo did a fine pace-making job. "I will be running the 1500m at IAAF Super Grand Prix II next week in Doha, Qatar, and this was a fine warm-up." World Junior 5000m and 3000m champion Augustine Choge won the 1500m in 3 minutes, 34.8 seconds and vowed to run the 5000m at Kenya's World Championship trials. Choge, who outpaced a quality field that include Ezekiel Kemboi, Isaac Songok and former world 4km cross country champion, Benjamin Limo to win the men's 1500m at the fifth Athletics Kenya weekend meeting in Nakuru last week, said he would henceforth run the 5000m.
