Ethiopia’s double World record holder and Olympic 10,000m champion, Kenenisa Bekele has recorded another victory in the 5000m, at the Norwich Union London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.

Bekele finished in a slow - by his standards - 12:55.55, after he was chased all the way by Australian Craig Mottram.

The 23-year-old however missed the British All Comers' record held by his mentor Haile Gebrselassie.

Mottram, 25, finished in a season's best 12:56.13 while Kenyan Bernard Kipyego was third in a personal best time of 13:12.47.

Bekele said: "I am now getting back to my best. I expected Craig to be with me but I was confident of winning."

The night's drama was complete when World Athlete of the Year, Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia twice broke the women's World Pole Vault record.

After overcoming 4.96m on her second attempt, she then went on to clear the elusive 5 metre mark on her first attempt, becoming the first woman in history to do so.
