Ethiopia’s World and Olympic 10,000m champion Kenenisa Bekele is set to lower his own World 10,000m record.

The 22-year-old will attempt the world record time of 26:20.71 set in Ostrava last year at the IAAF Grand Prix, Thales FBK Games in Hengelo, The Netherlands, this weekend.

Bekele said: "I feel I am in World record breaking shape.

"I have been training for two months here in the USA and I am confident of lowering my own mark."

Bekele, who also set the World 5000m record last year on the same Hengelo track, is the IAAF's world athlete of 2004 and heads the overall standings in the latest IAAF World Rankings.
